Hyral
Haven't tried it but couldn't you just use any other mail checker? Link to comment
d.crowley
Nope, GMail doesn't support pop3 (yet)... And I agree, a GMail checker for AveDesk WOULD rock. Link to comment
Eric
Might it be possible to figure out how to do it? I mean there's a program that you can put in the system tray to check gMail, how hard can it be to port that to AveDesk? Link to comment
k21975
This would be a great app...Right now I'm using, http://johnvey.com/features/gmailapi/ Link to comment
d.crowley
I'm using Mail Notifier, checks multiple accounts, automatically logs in, plays a sound when you got new mail - that's all I need... I guess it shouldn't be too hard to port this sort of thing to AveDesk... anyone? Link to comment
k21975
If any developers would like a gmail account so that they could then turn around and create a really COOL, kick but, Gmail notification desklet. Let me know. I may need to see some credentials first, though... invitations are still tough to come by... kevinkeenan@gmail.com Link to comment

pwnzrzpat
there's a Konfabulator widget that does that and is small so it displays only the Gmail M on the envelope logo and a number for unread messages! You could port that to AveDesk.Pat Link to comment

Mahalis
If someone does it, they'll probably have to use the data-array things the way the Gmail interface Javascript does.. I heard somewhere that Google was going to deliberately set it up so HTML-parsing things wouldn't work, 'cos they put too much strain on the server.. Link to comment

d.crowley
There's a GMail notifier for Trillian Pro: http://www.deltha.ro/ It works very well... Checks multiple accounts at customized times and even has a message preview... Doesn't consume any memory or cpu at all. Now if anybody could port that to an Avedesk widget... (I'd be pleased to give out six gmail invitations to anybody who does that, in case there's still need of them...) Link to comment

harsha_c
Firefox now has a Gmail Notifer extension which I am using right now. Its the best although it supports only a single account. It supports automatic login and displays the no. of new messages on the desktop. Also you can use the official Gmail notifier from Google http://toolbar.google.com/gmail-helper/ Link to comment

herd
Okay, folks all the APIs I found so far need the .Net runtime. Why? because MS chose to implement needed secure HTML/XML stuff into .Net runtimes only. So far, only complex solutions utilizing OpenSSL like the FireFox plugin are available as source code. However, this one should close the case: It allows pop3 access to GMail and hence works with all pop3 enabled desklets'n docklets, likewise with Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc. out of the box. However, GMail now supports reading your unread email as RSS feeds, so it should be easy to create a GMail checker widget by using this method somehow... Link to comment
