kjohnson
hehehe, the thing is I will try to test the genie on my friend's nvidia and I will try to fix it.I dunno how much it will take... I even think of making the aladdin effect open-source... maybe some of the DirectX geeks will solve the problem faster than me Thanks for looking into it. I'm using the genie effect, but sparingly. I'll probably just revert back to the standard until the timing issues get ironed out. Link to comment
tekNerd
i have nvidia geforce pcx 5750 and alladin effect works quite nice! Link to comment
Oxtie
See boys? I was right about him I'm still being real man! Cauz... the prob is not from Raduking's side... its the stinking nVidia dudes. Link to comment
Jozer99
I have a Pentium D 2.8, ATI Radeon x800xl, 2gb RAM, and XP MCE, the effect is slow as sin for me. I know only the minimize effect has been implimented, but when I click minimize, there is a 2-4 second lag, then an incredibly choppy but fast genie effect. I don't see how this is any better than some of the tech demos out years ago, especially since it won't run well on my machine. Link to comment
Kenta
I don't see why people are having problems with the Alladin effect. It runs smooth and fast for me.The only problem is that the title bar on the window seems to have a short trail behind it. Link to comment

Consider yourself lucky that it's running fine , most Nvidia users are currently having problems with this, whereas it's running fine for nearly all Ati users. Raduking is currently looking into this :Prays: Link to comment
Oxtie
hmmm... hahaha... drudragon i don't think it will be solved if I were you, I would go to AveDesk post instead its the nVidia drivers (me never buying anything that has nVidia on it again) Link to comment
drudragon
AveDesk post?? I can't afraik as i just built my rig recently and so can't afford to go to Ati cards, but if i had the choice i would choose Nvidia as im a gamer, and for me Nvidia kicks Ati's ass . But i won't start that debate! :Continues to pray: Link to comment
Kenta
ARGH!!I don't know what happened but now it's slow as piss. This sucks! ;-; Link to comment
Oxtie
LoooL welcome to nVidia world Kenta Btw Raduking Sire, I'm no programmer but can "OpenGL" help in anyway? I'm sure all of us nVidia freaks have kik-arse OpenGL built-in. Usually, in emulation world, I see DX8/9 and then OpenGL all the time... Link to comment
SparXCG
OpenGL is fast on nVidia cards, but I'm not too sure whether it can handle such effects. Would be great if it can. Then ATI users would be ripping hair off their heads Link to comment
Kenta
Even more weirdness from here.I'm also going to put this in the bugs thread, but this has a lot more posts so I'll have it here too.Anyways, whenever I minimized a window such as Firefox or iTunes with the Alladin effect enabled, the side to the right window turns black and stays there even after the effect is done. The only way to get rid of it is by taking a window and dragging and dropping it on the area until it's done. Also I've read that effect is extremely slow when that there is one window on the desktop, but mine works like it showed in the video without a problem. I start having problems with it being extremly slow when I have the minimizing window overlap another window while it's in the effect. Link to comment
Recall
OpenGL is fast on nVidia cards, but I'm not too sure whether it can handle such effects. Would be great if it can. Then ATI users would be ripping hair off their heads OGL is just as capable as DX, also its open source. It may be better to try to code in OGL. Link to comment

Kenta
sometimes I wonder if you people actually know what you are talking about I'm pretty sure most of the time, we don't. Link to comment
Recall
sometimes I wonder if you people actually know what you are talking about Yes I do, seeing as that is aimed at me. FYI OSX which uses this effect is built on OGL. So if your saying its not possible, then please explain Link to comment
ssuuddoo
AWESOME thnx a lot (about the minimize function - I think you should make RKLauncher not to steal the minimized windows from a normal taskbar because they can be restored only from the RKLauncher and not from the taskbar ) thnx anyway ssuuddoo Link to comment
Blade
wow... a week released and I just notice about this now.ThanksAnd I hope that the config were like the previous version and not like the lastest AveDesk where the config looks "screwed" Link to comment
ssuuddoo
xixi - I had a very nice coincidence - and got on the http://home.cogeco.ca/~raduking/ in the night from 16. to 17. october and downloaded it. and about the config - looks pretty good 4 me.bye Link to comment
SparXCG
If you want me to explain why it works in OSX, I would say it's because OSX works much differently than Windows.Whether it works or not on Windows, I don't know. I do know, however, that ATI cards are somewhat sloppy with OpenGL implementation. Link to comment
Kenta
It's because OS X renders the entire GUI in OpenGL, which is why the windows have no tearing (because of it uses buffering), the effects are possible without taxing the system, and why it has all those pretty piece of eye candy (the stay in place scrollbar texture for example.)At least that is my understanding. SparXCG
You can also use the distorted windows during the genie effect if you kill the dock at the right moment using the terminal. Wow, Aqua is powerful. Link to comment
