duyvan82
i'm not sure what your problem is, but for me, when i plug my external/removable drive (like hard disk, iPod or USB key) an icon appears on my desktop and as soon as I unplug the drive, the icon fades out and disapears. I'm using avedesk 1.3 too. Link to comment
lukevink
you know what I think avedesk needs? a way to order icons on screen... u noe like.. so that when a new icon appears, the other ones order themselves Link to comment
Jack is cool.
like a grid - windows icons style, right luke?i know what you mean.there have been tons of suggestions, i think one day ave will maybe include this? Link to comment
hallf
I have the same problem with removable USB hard drives....once connected, Avedesk won't let them shut down to be removed safely. USB key-drives on the other hand work fine...I think the difference has something to do with a USB key showing up as a removable drive in My Computer whereas an external USB hard disk shows up as simply a hard drive...but I could be wrong. kelymin
exactly. maybe it is the hard drive. maybe sum people have that single disk hard drive. Pen drives works excellent. CDs too. so simply cant. Link to comment
duyvan82
I have a Maxtor one touch II external hard drive, and it works fine with Avedesk. I mean i don't need to safely remove it or anything, i just unplug it when i don't want to use it. As soon as i unplug the drive, the icon just disappears. I really have no idea why it doesn't work for you guys. Link to comment
hallf
Oh it works if I just unplug the drive....but by not letting Windows "safely" remove it first you risk a chance (probably small) of data corruption. Link to comment
duyvan82
i've been doing that ever since i got my external harddrive, never had any problem with data corruption though. I guess we just have to wait until there is no activity at all before unpluggin the drive :) PS: if you're using windows 2000 you might have problems though, data would be lost if you don't 'safely remove' the hard drive  Link to comment
kelymin
we could wait for 12 hours and still cant remove it safely. coz the system thinks it is still used (by avedesk) Link to comment
AndreasV
which is weird, because AveDesk is not using it at all really - I need more info tho. Is this happening with both USB and real external HDDs? Link to comment
hallf
Not sure what you mean by a "real" external HDD Ave....I have two IDE (UATA or PATA or whatever the proper term is nowadays) drives I put in external cases that connect via USB to my desktop...those I assume are what you mean by a "real" drive as opposed to a USB key or "flash" drive. When I go to the system tray and click on the remove hardware icon I can safely remove a USB flash drive with Avedesk running, but not the IDE/USB drives - it always says the drive can't be stopped now, try again later (or something to that effect), but if I shut down Avedesk, the drives can then be safely removed by clicking on the remove hardware tray icon.
