DiscMounter 0.1

Recommended Posts

Taking the concept found here, I've updated it to deal with disposing the icon when the disc is removed. It's a quick hack job but it works and it's free unlike some other available tools like DeskMount.

More options will be added later on. Let me know if there are any problems and I'll try to fix them as soon as possible.

The .Net 2.0 Framework is required in order for this application to function properly. Please make sure you have it installed before running the program.

Updatelog:

Version 0.7.1 November 7, 2007

  • Fixed the icon saving bug for good hopefully - you should no longer get the 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80020009): Exception occurred. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020009 (DISP_E_EXCEPTION))' error
  • Fixed the Preference bug - you should no longer get the 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' error

The version is previously uploaded did work correctly. I had just forgotten to update on my end and was using the older version. Everything 'should' be good to go now.

Version 0.7 - November 7, 2007

  • Added option to use either shortcut in startup folder or the registry for auto-run when Windows starts
  • Added option to place newly mounted drives on the right side of desktop (requested by SirSmiley)
  • Added in some error logging with regards to saving preferences
  • Fixed a bug regarding save icon positions
  • Fixed a bug regarding renaming Audio CDs - it now should store the name of the audio CD thus stopping DiscMounter from polling CDDB every second

Version 0.6 - November 5, 2007

  • Cleaned up the underlying code which should make this a bit more efficient
  • Added "Allow DiscMounter to rename Audio CD using CDDB" to the Preferences window - this should fix some problems I've noticed when it comes to Audio CDs.
  • Added "Save icon positions" to the system tray menu
  • Fixed - The preference window is no longer resizable
  • Added icon position saving! Now the icons should move to their previous location on the desktop when added. Icon positions will automatically be saved when a disc / drive is removed and when the program closes. You can save the position of the icons at any other time by clicking "Save icon positions" in the system tray menu.

This feature is still being worked on and is not 100%. I'd say it's around 94.3 or so...there are still times when the icons, for some reason decide not to move. Working out the kinks and should have everything running tip-top for the next release.

Version 0.5 : November 3, 2007

  • Added ability to ignore floppy drives in the preference window
  • Added 'Monitored Drives' menu to system tray.

If a CD/DVD drive has no media inserted, when the menu item is clicked the corresponding drive will open. Otherwise, it will open Explorer to the designated place.

Version 0.4 : October 31, 2007

  • Added Preference window
  • Added options to monitor all drives, including Optical, Fixed, Network, Removable and RAM drives
  • Added ability to auto-start DiscMounter when Windows starts and start minimized to system tray
  • Added ability to clean up the shortcuts on the desktop when DiscMounter closes

Version 0.3 : October 27, 2007

  • Again, changed the way it detects insert/eject of CD/DVD drives. This will fix any problems with faulty WMI calls
  • Added - if an Audio CD is inserted and the computer is connected to the internet, it will grab the CDDB info from FreeDB.org and use that as the shortcut label
  • Added - if you delete the shortcut on the desktop, it will eject the disc from the drive

I have a version of this that also should detect removable drives but I need someone with a Floppy Drive to test it first. I need to see if it tries accessing it repeatedly. If you'd like to test it, let me know.

Version 0.2 :

  • Changed the way it detects insert/eject of CD/DVD drives, which should fix the repeated accessing of the Floppy Drive.

Okay, things should be fixed now regarding the floppy drive who-ha Laertis was experiencing. I wasn't able to test it (the other computer is used mainly as a server and I wasn't up to hauling a monitor over to it, etc...). I changed the way it detects the CD insert/eject so now it should only check CD/DVD drives. Fingers crossed at least. hehe

Updated version at the top of thread.

The reason it doesn't work when you plug in your PSP is because I haven't added USB support for it yet.

The version was 0.2 I just forgot to change it. HIding the system tray icon will be included in the next version. Still tinkering with a better way of getting notifications. I'm using WMI updates ands have noticed that at times (rare but it's there Windows starts to lock up and needs to be restarted).

So that's where this is at the moment. It was a quick exercise in programming to see if it could be done be me. I'll update it shortly when I get some free time.

I think - I could be wrong as I don't speak French - that that error is caused by not having .Net 2.0 Framework installed or the installation is faulty. Re/install .Net 2.0 Framework and try it again.

It isn't French ;) But it seems to be a latin language like French so it seems that it says "The application couldn't start correctly etc ..." wich is an error that you get when you don't have .net or you have the wrong version.

True enough, now that I look at it more it looks more like Spanish...or Portuguese?. Either way, it's correct to assume .Net 2.0 Framework needs to be installed.

But hey, it looked like French at 3 i the morning, I swear. :P

@Relativity: I'm sure there is a way for it to be done but it's not as straightforward as I'd like it to be. I'll see what options I have and get back to you.

@elix000: Thanks for the compliments. :) Great to know it's working for you. It's possible to add that in. Perhaps in the next update. ;)
