^ And for every item you want to add, you have to put a new docklet?

Plus in RK Launcher 0.41 you'd need to make a copy of the .dll for every icon, to circumvent the "rk launcher 0.41 won't allow multiple instances of same docklet" problem.

Don't get me wrong, it's just it would be better to do the dock from scracth, get Radu to release RK Launcher sources, or ask Punk Software to implement the feature in Rocket Dock. Or maybe AndreasV, Sranshaft or someone else can write a dock... I would but have no time to do it (and don't know how to solve the flickering reported by csongi).

You dont have to anymore, if you name it a new docklet the error doesn't come up. Like lets say we want 4 of your stack docklets in my dock. You put "Stackdocklet" in the docklets folder, then copy and paste it, rename it to stackdocklet01, the dock recognizes them as two different docklets, so it doesn't give you the error. But that is still a huge pain....

Also, my team has asked Radu for source, so far no reply. (we sent it yesterday). Im going to ask Yoni for the source of the iVista build, that should get us started reasonably well. I dont know what the problem is for you guys, my cpu is at like 10%, and i get the blink like every 5 minutes.

I believe all that is just RKLauncher packaged with skin and icons no source code for the dock itself only Radu has that.

Crap.....Well then, I will just have to wait for Radu..I dont think he will be active for quite some time. I'll have to check his last active time..

EDIT: OMG!!

can't figure out how RK Launcher, Rocket Dock, etc... do it

Don't they just do one layered window and then paste everything they want to draw on it ? Maybe that's why they have such good performance (on winxp MS says you musn't use many layered windows, but I think you know that ;) )

PS : You lastest version works good for me, even in my virtual machine :P But maybe it's becasue I don't have hardware accel, but it always takes 30% of my cpu.

the latest version locks up all windows after about 15 seconds but it's just a test project so it wouldn't matter anyway, right?

very nice btw! i got a kick out of it:)

if you were curious, i have vista x64 with a quad core and 8800gtx and 4gb ddr2 800 so it isn't so much performance problems as much as it is an error.

i admire your programming knowledge! is programming part of your job?

I think radu deserves a big applaud for doing this and not letting RKLauncher just die out. If your going to be working with the latest version of rk you might want to try and fix the problem with running more than one instance of a docklet.

What?

Radu has not logged in since July, so he has not contributed to this.

Hi, I wanted to post an update to my proof of concept:

matias.securityconsultant.com.ar/MirroringDock-test-2008-02-06.rar

  • Turns itself into PRIORITY_CLASS_IDLE so it doesn't it your CPU (or at least my CPU).
  • Uses different algorithm to keep the dock background and dock items on top and ordered (can't figure out how RK Launcher, Rocket Dock, etc... do it).

@schmrom:

Waiting to hear from you soon!

Good Work Matius :D and eats 6MB (only reflect code) ^^

Byes & Good Luck
