Greg27
I used replacer to install a Leopard Shell32.dll. It worked fine, I restarted and the icons were all there. However the next time I turned on my PC, the icons had all gone back to the default windows ones, and when I checked the Shell32.dll file with reshacker, it was the old windows shell32.dll.I've done this a few times now, and it always reverts itself. Why does this happen? SirSmiley
Check your security software settings. When I use to replace mine I always disabled my security settings after I disconnected from the internet. **Note: This is not a suggestion merely what I did. Link to comment
MyCousinVinny
hey go to the control panelfolder optionsunder hidden files and folders (it sticks out from the rest)It says "Hide extensions for known file types" click itnow try it Link to comment
kinsemon
your probably have System Restore turned on, so files are restored from backups. try doing your thing with Sys Restore turned off (be sure to have a copy of the file you're messing with, stored somewhere safe). also do it in Safe Mode. SirSmiley
Just thought of another thing. You do know about removing windows back up version of shell32.dll?If you don't replace that then it will overwrite the hacked version you're trying to use. Link to comment
Greg27
@SirSmiley: Where's the windows back up shell32.dll?@MyCousinVinny: Done it. I'll try it in a moment. Link to comment
SirSmiley
The original backup is in the hidden folder i386 in your root drive. eg. C:i386shell32.dll.Also, just noticed that a number of the windows updates have versions. So, that may be an issue. Did you reshack your own dll or download someone else's. Link to comment
Greg27
I downloaded someone elses. Link to comment
mtasquared
maybe Windows File Protection is set to scan your system at startup. you can disable this scan or the whole service (not recommended for security reasons) through the registry. Link to comment
nookieSpooky
when I'm installed flyakite and trying to mod the shell32.dll it'll restore to default shell32.dll from flyakite. perhaps that's the problem. (if u installed flyakite 0_^).have you ever try replace shell32.dll in repair mode?I always do in repair mode to change shell32.dll.put your xp cd and boot from cd choose repair.all you need to do is rename the original shell32.dll(i.e shell32.backup) and make sure your new shell32.dll is in system32 with different name (i.e new_shell32.dll) after you rename the original rename new _shell32.dll to shell32.dll then reboot. becareful do not used shell32.dll from someone except you mod it by your self in your pc (it'll crash your system).I'd tried that and my pc goin' wild. Greg27
Think I've fixed it now. Disabled windows automatic updates - I think windows kept installing a new default shell32.dll. Also deleted the backup in the system32/dllcache folder, and used a a program called batchmod. Link to comment
