Leopard finder clone

Recommended Posts

Can anyone make a good leopard finder clone i mean why not start the project up again?

As a Leopard user myself, I believe the best (read: "reliable") Win clone to emulate the finder is still Explorer with Tom's Effect's FindeXer installed. Really, the only thing you don't have is coverflow and that emulation option is being looked at by a few developers.

Looking at the Mac finder vs Win explorer the only aesthetic difference (If you have installed a leopard theme using styler, wb or visual styles and FindeXer) is that there is a slightly ugly thick grey line between the sidebar the main window (whereas Leopard has the very thin dark-grey line).

For normal browsing, the above application emulates the Mac Finder almost perfectly, so its hard to imagine what more (other than a thin line and coverflow), you would want.

Windows is not OS X and therefore a compromise will realistically need to be made. If you are absolutely certain you have to have a perfect OS X environment, then I suggest you get a Mac.

Good luck

I agree that Explorer + Findexer is the best emulation. BUT

imho I need column view more than coverflow (since I move staff and column view is perfect idea for moving staff) the tabs approach is not that brilliant,

But I will agree with you Raats and want to update your saing - if you want to have a perfect OS environment, then I suggest you get a Mac.

Agreed mate!!

I guess I made the mistake of assuming most windows users would not use (or really know of) the great functionality of the column view...

BTW, not being that clued up on Vista, I have no idea if FindeXer works with that OS - Sorry Björn.

I did this in about 3 hours with adobe air (I had to learn it from scratch). The very. very basic element of this is working fine i.e. it can list folders, thats pretty much it but obviously if anyone actually wants to do this now it can be done. If anyone wants the source code i'm more than happy to hand it over.

Whats in the source:

- Custom window + resizing

- Javascript listing of directories

I've written this on my mac but obviously it would work on Linux and Windows too.

I'm not going to do this myself as I don't know how many people really want this but I'm giving the oppurtunity to anyone else who wants to give it a shot.
