10 Years of the iMac -- Thanks Apple!!

Tens year ago today, the original Bondi blue iMac went on sale. In more ways than one, it marked the rebirth of Apple into the one we know today and the dawn of the Jobs + Ive era. Not a bad legacy. So, Aqua-Soft, what was your favorite design -- all performance aside, considering the relevance of time+bad-specs-by-today's-standards.

Personally, I love the Aluminum iMac. The older white iMac design was good, as well.

I have to say... out of all the pieces of hardware in Apple's product line; Macbook, MBP, Mac Pro, iPod and even the iPhone... It is the iMac that takes my heart.

Its the centerpiece of the Apple family.

It lifted Apple back to its feet and put it on the radar with Steve Job's return- signaling a new era.

like Madonna it has continually reinvented itself completely; unlike the iPod - which the design is mainly evolution (not revolution).

It got rid of beige boxes.

It began as the most impractical computer (hockey puck mouse, rsi keyboard and neck strain screen height) but has become the most well designed personal computer of our time- combining both practicality with unparalleled style.

It is the ultimate show piece, and is brought to life by Leopard.

Today's iMac is a holy unity of software and hardware.

So my vote lies with today's iMac. Each rendition keeps getting better and better. Although I must admit, it was a little sad to see the white gloss go (though Aluminium does look slightly better).

My 2 cents is that the next iMac will have coloured aluminium choices (like the iPod nano 2nd gen colours) with a white backing piece (instead of black)... but a black glossy apple logo. now that would be badass.

EDIT- Actually, how mad would frosted white aluminium look... better than silver. *dribbles*

I've always loved the design of the G4. Damn, I wanted one so desperately when they came out, and something in me still wants one... Maybe I'll buy one with a working screen but broken internals and build a new pc into it?

I own a green G3 and one of the latest 20" aluminium iMacs. I'd like to do something with the G3 but I don't know what.

Anywhey, G4 ftw.

Are you gay? Because the Mac Pro is like the beefcake of the Mac market... and the iMac is like the lady in red...

I find it bizzare though... I definately prefer the iMac! :P

The iMac is ghey... it's a chic's machine. ;)

Granted it looks less ghey now that they gave it a metal housing, but it's still got a limp wrist going on. :P

The Power Mac screams work horse. Clean lines and utilitarian looks.
