Change .ico Icon

Recommended Posts

Oh, now I understand your question!

Run the Registry Editor (Start menu, Run, regedit.exe).

Now expand My computer, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, find .ico, and in the right pane take note of the (Default) value. In my case it says icofile.

Now, again under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, find the (Default) value this time (icofile in my case, your mileage may vary), expand it, and you'll see a subkey named DefaultIcon. Click it, and in the right pane you'll see a (Default) value (%1 in my case, probably an icon or .dll file in your case). Double click it to change the value to the full path of the icon you want to use.

I understand you can change the icon in Explorer too, using View, Folder options, File types, searching for the icon file type, and then changing the icon. You may want to try that instead.

Tell if you did it and what results did you have.

Edit

BTW just in case, you'll need to convert that .png file into an icon.
