JcRabbit
I'm going to have to release a new update today or tomorrow mainly because of a bug that caused voice and sound packages to be installed into the wrong folder (serves me right for deciding to add a last minute feature after all that testing). The good news is that I've also added a few major new features in the mean time:1. The dock's 'Insert Item' sub-menu now has two extra items: 'Show/Hide system tray icons' and 'Show/Hide running applications'. Guess this solves the problem of the (lack of) visibility of the new systray option.2. An optional 'groupped mode' systray setting. In this mode, one or more dock icons are used to compose a 16x16 grid of systray icons. For instance, suppose your dock is using an icon size of 48x48 pixels. In this case, each systray dock icon serves as a container to nine 16x16 systray icons arranged in a 3x3 grid. If your system tray has more than 9 visible icons, another dock icon is used to hold the remaining systray icons and so on...This mode is very useful to save space in the dock and helps aliviate the problem of having 16x16 system tray icons being magnified to 128x128 pixels.3. If a dock background doesn't have a separator bitmap, Nexus now uses a default bitmap (especially selected to go well with nearly every theme). In terms of the performance drop you mentioned, could you please try to figure out if this is because of the tray icons themselves or instead related to the actual number of icons in the dock? Also, what are your system specs? Thanks, Link to comment
zexe
I am using it on a HP notebook:P8400 proc @ 2.26GHz2GB ramshould not qualify as low spec.as for OS, its Windows XP SP3(still have to find out a way to get a good mix of Windows 7 superbar and nexus for the other machine)after enabling systray icons the icons were automaticaly shrinked, and this time the dock's background also adjusted properly, but as i tried to remove items from the dock i noticed that right clicking for context menus took alot of time (menu will be displayed fast but was not able to interact, after a couple ... or six seconds it redrew it and then i could select items).also hovering mouse and moving around lagged badly with the magnification effects.disabling the systray fixed the lags.later edit: only when systray icons are on the context menus are redrawn (and also repositioned). without systray feature, the menus can be used instantly on their spawn location (when they are redrawn, it moves slightly up) Edited March 27, 2010 by zexe Link to comment
JcRabbit
At the moment I have no idea why this could be happening. I've seen no problems on a XP SP3 machine I also have here. Using the update just released (your Nexus automatic update manager should have picked it up already, otherwise do a manual check for updates), does groupping the system tray icons help in any way? Also, is anybody else running into this? zexe
i just updated now and hurray! no more horrendous lag.and the systray icon grouping is extremely usefull in terms of dock space real estate.but how did you work on interacting with the systray icons? all groups show "systray icons" label. trying to snipe one of them but dosent do anything on click or doubleclick or rightclick. ocasionaly i got a window being popped up but from a whole different icon than what i was trying to click on...Later edit: without the grouping, i fall back to the bad lags and almost unusable dock. nevertheless while being not groupped i could click and get access to the systray item. I forgot to test the groupped systray icons with an effect other than the regular magnify one.Man. So sorry. I'll try releasing an update as soon as possible. What dock mouse over effect are you using? Perhaps that has something to do with the delay you are experiencing when the icons are not groupped. Link to comment
JcRabbit
Ok, just fixed the issue of not being able to interact with the tray icons when not using the magnify effect (a two line change in the code!) but I still need to know what effect you are using to see if it has something to do with the performance issue you mentioned. One question: if you hide the tray in the dock and add as many 'dummy' icons to it as there are items in the tray, do you get bad lags as well? JcRabbit
give me some details on how to help with the lag issue.was using the leopard background (with complete bg transparency or without it)First I'm trying to figure out if the problem with dock performance is due to the system tray icons being active on the dock _or_ because you have a lot of dock items. To do this, you should count the number of items in the system tray, prevent the system tray from showing in the dock and then adding as many 'dummy' items (just drag & drop anything to the dock) as there are systray icons. See if the dock behaves the same as it did when the systray was active in non-groupped mode or if it remains responsive. Then please report back. :-) Link to comment
zexe
glad to report first, yes! i have alot of systray items (counted 28 now, removed 2 by exiting the apps that hold them). i have no clue how to make selection in what systray icon to have displayed or not (i do not have "show all systray" setting selected). ill try ungrouping the systray and lag it out while trying to select items. even ungrouped: rightclick calls the systray item's menu. cannot drag them out of the dock... how to pick them or make them hidden or anything like that? maybe being able to ctrl-click on item to pop-up a nexus properties menu (control/etc) or have inside nexus properties (effects tab) a table list with system icons picked that are flagged as "alwasy hidden" or anything. testing without grouped systray icons was unbearable. i had to kill nexus.exe process which in turn crashed explorer.exe (sounds logical). JcRabbit
Make a manual check for updates if your auto update manager hasn't picked up on the new release yet. Let's hope third time is the charm. Link to comment

JcRabbit
Latest release is 10.3.887 dated March 29th - you can check if you are really up to date by clicking on the version number label at the top right corner of the About tab in Nexus Preferences, which will open the Version Information dialog.WFgod0, the Update Manager is working properly, perhaps it's some system specific issue? Anyway, you can always download the full version from the Winstep web site and install it on top (Cnet already updated their copy of the download file to the latest release). Link to comment

Technically it's correct because the original 10.3 was released on that date.Anyway, 10.3.881 is *not* the latest version. How are you performing your manual check for updates? JcRabbit
Sigh. One fixes one thing, breaks another: running indicators might not be working. If this is your case, here is what you should do (until the next release) to get them back into working shape:1. Insert a CPU Meter module into the dock. 2. Right Click on the CPU Meter module and select 'Show on Systray'. 3. You can now remove the CPU Meter module from the dock. zexe
i did the update (finally) and i have no issues with indicators.on a sidenote. i dont remember, was it rocketdock... that had a setting: if clicking an item in the dock will activate the process if it is already running.i remember i mentioned this one to you before and your answer was that the app itself should handle this.problem is cant find much apps that will limit their own process to avoid multiplying themselves when called.for instance it would be alot more "profitable" to click again the icon to switch to the app.i am running your dock without the taskbar. since some times i go to the shortcut by reflex rather than the task item, i get to start 2-3 instances of outlook, firefox, etc.since opening more tabs in IE, firefox, etc. can be done inside that app itself id love that when i hit the firefox icon in the dock it wouldnt start a fresh empty firefox window and switch me to the already run one (or last used if there were already more of them opened). think this makes sense and is something doable?ah, not to forget: tested zoom effect and i can use systray items, hurray!
